Queen Elizabeth’s husband Prince Philip was known for his no-nonsense attitude and it did not spare any of children as well.
Before Prince Andrew became the disgraced member of the royal family, he was once hailed as a war hero when he returned from his navy service in Falkland Islands in April 1982.
Despite having pinned a number of military achievements in his younger years, the late Duke of Edinburgh seemingly made an eerie prediction about his “pointless son”, via royal author Ingrid Seward.
Philip reportedly felt that Andrew never lived up to his expectations. Andrew was “berated” by his father for being “pointless”. The author noted the discerning remarks were mostly due to the Duke of York’s activities outside of his military sevice.
During the 1980s the Duke of York was referred to “randy Andy” by the press. He also gained a reputation for being the “playboy prince” as he was linked romantically to a string of models and actresses.
He finally married Sarah Ferguson in 1986 but they separated in 1992 and divorced four years later. In 2001, after formally leaving the navy, Andrew’s actions were scrutinised even more.
The royal author revealed that Andrew was known for “'tailoring his visits to include trips to luxury golf courses and fraternising with ‘dodgy’ Arab businessmen” during his time as the UK’s Special Representative for International Trade and Investment.
Moreover, royal biographer Robert Lacey wrote that the Andrew’s “dubious choice of business contacts came to shadow his reputation”.
It seems that Prince Philip was on to something as Andrew was stripped off of his royal titles and patronages in 2019 following his humiliating sex scandal and ties with convicted financier, Jeffery Epstein.
The new revelation comes as Andrew is in an ongoing feud with his brother King Charles, as the disgraced royal continues to resist vacating the 30-room mansion, Royal Lodge.
When the scandal first emerged, royal sources revealed that Prince Philip told Andrew “in no uncertain terms that he had to step down for the sake of the monarchy”.
He also dubbed him “a danger to the very fabric of the Royal Family”, a prediction which has come true given the slew of problems Andrew caused last year for the royals.
It remains to be seen if the King would think about taking a stricter stance with his brother given the wise words of his late father.
